Current Studies

Analysis

Multimodal Treatment of Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors

Study Investigators: Timothy Lautz, MD, Roshni Dasgupta, MD, MPH

Study Aim:

  1. Determine the comparative survival and treatment-related morbidity of complete cytoreductive surgery, whole abdomen radiation, and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

  2. Identify how the associated morbidity of treatment components (i.e., complete cytoreductive surgery, whole abdomen radiation, and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy) impact survivors’ quality of life.

  3. Explore the feelings of parents and patients about the treatment they received and the potential side effects of received treatments.

Pneumatosis Intestinalis in Pediatric Oncology

Study Investigators: Andrew Davidoff, MD and Zach Morrison, MD

Study Aim:

  1. Evaluate time to recovery from definitive radiographic PI diagnosis to advancement of diet, de-escalation of antibiotics, or complete resolution of PI on imaging.

Colorectal Cancer in Adolescent and Young Adult Patients

Study Investigators: Danielle Cameron, MD, MPH and Sara Mansfield, MD

Study Aims:

  1. Characterize epidemiology and management.

  2. Evaluate practice variation across a variety of care teams.

Detecting Regional Lymph Node Metastasis in Rhabdomyosarcoma

Study Investigator: Daniel Rhee MD, MPH

Study Aims:

  1. Determine the correlation between FDG-PET avidity in regional lymph nodes and histologic findings on surgically biopsied regional lymph nodes in rhabdomyosarcoma.

  2. Determine the correlation between regional lymph node enlargement seen on cross sectional imaging and corresponding histologic findings seen on surgically biopsied regional lymph nodes in rhabdomyosarcoma.

  3. Assess the frequency that patients are getting appropriate lymph node staging.

Pediatric Oncofertility Practices

Study Investigators: Kristine Corkum, MD and Jonathan Roach, MD

Study Aims:

  1. Assess current oncofertility resources at PSORC institutions.

  2. Evaluate oncofertility practices and pediatric fertility perseveration procedures for children diagnosed with common extracranial solid tumors at high-risk for treatment-related fertility loss.

Pediatric Immature Teratoma

Study Investigators: Barrie Rich, MD and Deborah Billmire, MD

Study Aims:

  1. Determine 5-year event free and overall survival of IT of the ovary and retroperitoneum

  2. Assess the use and impact of chemotherapy and other systemic modalities in primary and recurrent IT

  3. Assess the sites and frequency of tumor spread at diagnosis

  4. Assess the sites, frequency and factors influencing relapse of IT

Diagnostic Accuracy of Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules

Study Investigators: Jennifer Aldrink, MD and Emily Christison-Lagay, MD

Study Aims:

  1. Assess the performance of TI-RADS with pediatric size modifications.

  2. Evaluate the utility and applicability of molecular testing for indeterminate cytology.

Outcomes of Pediatric Patients with Ganglioneuroma

Study Investigators: Denise Klinker, MD, MEd

Study Aims:

  1. Determine the current practice management of GN.

  2. Determine outcomes of observation vs resection of GN.

  3. Create a protocol for the management of GN that can be evaluated prospectively.

Rare Pediatric Renal Tumors

Study Investigators: Elizabeth Tracy, Harold Lovvorn, Marcus Malek

Outcomes of Pediatric Patients with Neuroblastoma

Study Aims:

  1. Identify associations between patient demographics and short- and long-term outcomes in children with neuroblastoma.

  2. Identify patient and perioperative factors associated with surgical complications and oncologic outcomes following neuroblastoma resection.

  3. Determine the impact of surgical complications on the overall care and outcomes of children with neuroblastoma.

Perioperative Transfusions (Hepatoblastoma)

Study Aims:
